What is an Audio visual integrator?
An AV integrator designs, supplies, installs, and supports audiovisual technology systems for commercial and institutional clients. Unlike a retailer or reseller, an integrator takes responsibility for the entire project – from understanding your requirements and designing the right system through to installation, programming, training, and long-term support. What types of projects does Backman Vidcom handle?
We work across a wide range of environments – hospitals, courthouses, university campuses, corporate boardrooms, council chambers systems, broadcast control rooms, government facilities, and cultural venues. What services do you offer?
We offer end-to-end AV services including system consultation, design, supply, installation, programming, user training, and ongoing support and maintenance. We handle every phase ourselves – no subcontracting, no handoffs.
Which sectors do you work in?

Do you work outside of Nova Scotia?
Yes. We serve clients across all four Atlantic provinces – Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland. We have also delivered specialised projects across Canada. Through our membership in the PSNI Global Alliance, we can also support organizations with multi-location deployments across Canada and internationally.
What certifications does your team hold?
Our team includes CTS-D (Certified Technology Specialist – Design) and CTS-I (Certified Technology Specialist – Installation) professionals, certified by AVIXA – the global authority in AV standards. We are also PSNI Global Deployment and Global Service certified, and members of National Systems Contractors Association, the Professional Audio Visual Society of Canada. We are COR certified by Construction Safety Nova Scotia
Our teams also hold credentials from recognized audiovisual brands such as Crestron, Extron, Biamp, Yealink, Poly, Shure, Q-Sys, Barco, and Dante.
Do you work with a specific brand or manufacturer?
No. We are brand-agnostic, which means we recommend the technology that best fits your needs and budget – not a preferred vendor. We work with leading manufacturers across the AV industry and specify what’s right for each project.
However, we only recommend brands we know have a history of quality and performance that will consistently work for our clients. We will not recommend brands that are not “battle tested” by us.
How does a typical project work?
Every project starts with a site assessment and consultation to understand your environment, goals, and constraints. From there, our team develops a system design, provides a detailed proposal, and – once approved – handles procurement, installation, programming, and testing. We complete every project with user training and documentation, and remain available for ongoing support. Contact us to get started.
Can you support systems you didn't install?
In many cases, yes. Contact us to discuss your existing system with us and we can advise on whether we’re able to provide support, upgrades, or integration with new technology.
